Is an Exhibition of LGBTQQIA Artists of Color running from June 11th, to July 11th, 2015, at the Casa Frela Gallery, 47 West 119th Street (between Lenox and Fifth Avenues) in Harlem. Take the 2/3 Trains to 116 or the M1, M7, M102 or M116 buses.
VOICES is the ONLY annual art event in Harlem celebrating the LGBT pride of people of color. It is held at the Casa Frela Gallery every June concurrently with New York City’s festivals of Gay Pride, Harlem Pride and the Puerto Rican Day Parade. Each year, VOICES celebrates the lives and stories of people of color who represent the diasporas of the LGBT community. This year, VOICES IV will celebrate IDENTITY in all its forms as seen through the eyes and spoken through the mouths of its gay/lesbian/bi/trans people, friends and families.
The exhibit will run daily from June 11 to July 11, 2015. The official opening will occur on Thursday, June 11, 2015, from 5 to 9 pm.
The Exhibiting Artists represent a variety of media (photography, drawing, sketching, painting, mixed media, cartoons, and graphics). The message, though, will be loud and proud: "We are here and this is my voice.”
VOICES IV is an exhibition about our voices, our people, our struggle, our communities and our unity. VOICES IV includes voices of pride, anger, despair, love, rage, lust, pain, and happiness. Whatever the message of IDENTITY in the art, it is LOUD and it is PROUD. Parents are advised to review the exhibit prior to bringing children under the age of 13.
